Close your eyes and drift into an ever-shifting ocean of melodies. Let go, and let the waves carry you, as this trio has no intention of reaching the surface. Glassmanet is an IndiePop band formed in Norway, consisting of Glassmanet herself on vocals and visuals, Hannah Mørtl on bass, and drummer Embrik Berge. Together, they create a soundscape that is as immersive as it is ethereal.
Their latest EP, FLOW, features four songs where each note feels like a ripple and each chord pulls like a tide. The melodies evoke the sensation of being pushed and pulled, just like the very currents that shape our shores. When I first listened to this group, I thought, “Wow, what a way to make music feel otherworldly.”
Glassmanet debuted in 2021 with their single “Mute My Mind,” a dreamy blend of dream pop and psychedelic rock. The track makes you feel as if you’re floating, suspended in a lush soundscape. “In the beginning I was just recording on my own by my very minimalistic "desk-studio", not really sure of what I was doing, but just recorded things until I liked what I heard. Since then the project has evolved into a band with Hannah Mørtl on bass and Embrik Berge on drums, where we have developed new songs.”- Glassmanet
Fast forward three years, and their progression is evident in their latest EP, FLOW. The opening track, “Floating On,” sets the tone with a peaceful, dreamlike setting and as she sings “I Just keep floating on,” I'm touched with a reminder to flow with life’s currents.
The second track, “Lagoon (on the Moon),” leans heavily into the band’s psychedelic tendencies. Opening with hypnotic drum patterns, it evolves into a lush, melodic exploration, anchored by memorable hooks.
“The new EP "FLOW" was recorded in a proper studio with the brilliant producer Kenneth Ishak who helped shape the Glassmanet sound waves into sounding better than they have ever sounded before.” – Glassmanet
My personal favorite, “Onda,” is the perfect blend of indie, dream pop, and psychedelic textures. The production is sensational, perhaps even defining for this EP. The dreamy vocals, crystalline guitars, and dynamic drums coalesce into something that feels simultaneously grounded and transcendent. The additional choice of singing this song in Spanish, adds another layer of depth within the lyrics, making it a track that lingers gracefully note after note.
The EP ends with “With Onward Flow,” a reflective piece that brings the journey full circle. The song’s repetitive structure invites listeners to loop the EP, enhancing its cyclical and timeless quality. Starting with “Float” and ending with its continuation, FLOW offers a purposeful trance that embodies relaxation and introspection.
