Quit Everything is a rising punk rock band out of Northeast Tennessee, and their sound is an undeniable nod to the energetic, melodic vibe of Southern California punk legends like Bad Religion, NOFX, and The Dopamines. But despite their clear influences, Quit Everything brings something fresh and distinctive to the table. The band plays with classic punk rock tropes—four-chord structures, fast-paced drums, and catchy, anthemic choruses—but they add their own spin, blending nostalgia with originality.
I had the chance to get a closer understanding of the band with lead vocalist Troy Prater. Their latest single, “Radical With You,” is a prime example of what they’re all about: an infectious track with a fast beat, clever lyrics, and a vibe that feels both familiar and exciting. “Radical With You” follows their debut single, “Minus Fatass,” and it’s clear that the band is hitting the ground running with a distinct sound that balances punk aggression with melody.
Troy’s vocals are a standout feature, perfectly capturing that SoCal punk feel. There’s something about his voice that’s both raw and polished, with just the right amount of attitude. It’s a voice that feels like it could fit in with the greats of punk, yet still maintains a personal flair that sets the band apart—but his approach to songwriting is where Quit Everything really starts to shine. When asked about his creative process, Troy explained that songwriting for him begins with the lyrics, followed by the melody. “ I write a blueprint of the song and then show it to the rest of the band and they add in what they want,” he says. The band’s collaborative process clearly works, and it’s easy to hear the chemistry in their tracks. Even in just two singles, there’s a cohesiveness to the sound that speaks to their growing potential.
Their sound is both energetic and emotional—anthemic choruses and catchy hooks meet lyrics that touch on life’s struggles and triumphs. As Troy notes, one recurring theme in their music is “tragedy,” but not in a way that’s meant to be bleak. “I’m a sucker for a good tragedy,” he shares. “Life is hard. Struggles will happen. Just have fun, live your best life and make the most out of the hand you’re dealt.” It’s a sentiment that rings true in their music, and it’s something that listeners can relate to, no matter where they come from.
Quit Everything’s debut LP, Entertaining Ghosts, is slated for release on February 7, 2025, and the band is eager to share it with the world. The 10-track album promises to build on the foundation they’ve already laid with their singles, offering more of the same melodic punk energy, but with even more depth and evolution. If the singles are any indication, this band is only just beginning to hit their stride.
For Troy and the band, the road ahead is one of constant growth. “Like anything, the more you do it, the better you get,” Troy reflects. “We’re pushing ourselves to be better musicians, better songwriters, and better performers. We’ve had a lot of challenges along the way, but we’re ready for whatever comes next.” It’s this kind of determination and commitment to the craft that makes Quit Everything a band to keep an eye on in the coming years.
So, if you’re into melodic punk rock with a bit of wit, some heart, and plenty of energy, Quit Everything should be on your radar. The release of Entertaining Ghosts will be a big moment for them, but it’s clear that this band has the potential to go much further. Whether you’re a longtime punk fan or just looking for something fresh, Quit Everything’s music is sure to leave an impression.
Keep an eye on them—they’re just getting started.
